protostar is a transparent, self-reporting tool designed for K-12 schools to accurately measure sustainability performance on several levels. As the name implies, it’s a stellar solution to achieving proper sustainability – and not just on the environmental level.
protostar is a powerful storehouse of data encompassing everything from energy efficiency, affordability, staff hiring and cost of living, to community service, economic well-being, even risk management.
protostar was adapted directly from the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) created and managed by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
Already proven in colleges and universities nationwide, protostar was developed by the Eight Schools Association, a group of leading, private college-preparatory schools, funded with a gracious donation from the Edward E. Ford Foundation.
protostar is now managed by the Green Schools Alliance.
Reengineered for both public and private K-12 schools, protostar makes it easy to share sustainability methods and approaches with other schools, thanks to a deep and searchable database. Use it to help other schools generate ideas, and also invite them to participate – to help grow the K-12 sustainability community.
